Oh Baby Quilts.

I am excited to share with you my latest project, a baby quilt for my *one month old* daughter.

When I first thought of making this quilt, I was hoping to find an already existing pattern that would work well with the fabrics I chose.  I picked through the quilty blogosphere with a fine toothed comb…but nothing spoke to me in regards to these fabrics.  I did find a dozen or so new blogs and quilts that are now on my must read and must make lists!  At the end of the search, I decided to design my own quilt blocks.

I knew that I wanted to showcase the cute fabrics (purchased at Cool Cottons and Fabric Depot) which for me means BIGGER blocks.  I also wanted it to be a quick project (who has time with a one month old and a 6 year old home for the summer?!  Only crazy people like me.).  So, the quilt goes like this: big blocks are 9 inches square, the little strips 2inches by 9inches, and the teeny pink blocks 2inches by 2 inches.  Easy peasy, no?

I am really liking how the blocks are coming together.  Elephants and flowers and apples.  Red and pink co-mingling.  Funny fruits and veggies to tie it all together.  I can hardly wait to get it pieced and quilted!

The sewing machine has been humming along, just like the bees on our garden.  I am preparing for my first big Etsy update in a long while, and hope to have the shop updated on Thursday.  Aprons, knitting needle cases, journal covers, and a few other fun items…

I have also been working on finishing the Bunch of Squares quilt I started last year (jaysis!).  I have the quilt top sewn together, and now I get to the fun part…stitchin’!  (I will take pictures in daylight tomorrow.)  I like the way it looks in our bedroom, and it was pretty fun to put together.  I can’t wait to make another quilt!

Any suggestions?

I have been neglecting the ol’ blog lately, but here are some pics of the quilt that I have been slowly but surely working on over the past month. Good news is that we finally have tracked down a new cord for our digital camera…hence, lots more blogging with pictures coming your way.

AND…

Happy Mother’s Day Sebastian…. you rock my world!! I feel so lucky to have you in my life.

I have been a busy bee. I have completed dozens of projects in the last year. Heck! Within the last few months! But one project, has yet to be completed. It’s a BIG one. A queen sized quilt to be exact.

You see, a couple of year’s ago I bought the very wonderful “Denyse Schmidt Quilts”. I made quite a few smaller projects from the book, but had never tackled anything quite as substantial as an entire quilt. I have no idea what was holding me back, perhaps it was the fact that I had never made a quilt of that magnitude before. Maybe I was intimidated by the very thought of hand stitching the entire thing together. I was a quiltin’ chicken!

That was when my darling husband came to my rescue. He decided that he wanted a new quilt for the bed that HE had made. (Have I mentioned that he is a finish carpenter and likes to makes things too?! NO? Aren’t I just the luckiest gal in the whole-wide-universe?) He also thought it would be fun to come to the fabric store with me,  to help me pick out the fabric.

You did indeed read that correctly. HE CAME WITH ME TO THE FABRIC STORE AND HELPED ME PICK OUT FABRIC. Uh huh. Oh yea.

Before we headed over to Cool Cottons, we had decided on the “What a Bunch of Squares” design out of the book. I was really excited, but nervous that he might get bored. We had a lovely time, and came up with some really great choices. (Pictures of the fabric will be up by this evening as we are hunting down our camera cable. Much sad making.)

And ever since, slowly but surely, I have been piecing the squares together between other projects. But no MORE! I am putting our quilt of love to the top of my sewing to-do list. I intend to have it done by the end of my BLOG CHALLENGE.

Who’s with me?!

If you are so inclined to email me a picture of a project that has been languishing in the bottom of your knitting basket, fabric stash, or -what-have-you..along with a wee story…and then finish it by the time my 30-Day Blog Challenge is over…I will send you (yes, you!) a fabulous little prize.

I will also have a grand-prize drawing for an If’n Books Jen Corace journal!

So…let’s get to work, shall we?
